Brown University BioMedical Center

The existing BioMed center on Brown Street got a $95 million addition on Meeting Street for a new Biomedical Research center. Ground broke in October, 2003.

GTECH

A new centerpiece of architecture as you enter the city from I-95. Frankly, it could be better. Architect: Spagnolo Gisness & Associates. Start date: Spring 2005. Projected end date: Fall 2006

I-Way Bridge

A new bridge spanning the Blackstone River floated into place on August 27, 2006. 80 feet high, 400 feet long. Highway will be operational by 2008. Architect William D. Warner and engineer Patricia D. Steere. Beyond the Hurricane Barrier at the mouth of the Bay, Providence.

Jefferson Place/the 903

New construction in the Promenade District. Originally built by a Texas company, then sold to Paolino and a New York firm for $81m. Photographed 2002-2005. 330 units.

Miriam Hospital Expansion

A new addition for the Miriam Hospital in the Summit neighborhood. Designed by HOK and built by Dimeo Construction.

One Ten Westminster

New construction in the Financial District. The largest new project in Providence. A joint venture between the local Granoff company and a Boston firm. 32 stories, 130 condos from $500k to $2.5m.

Parcel 6

Low rise condos along the Blackstone River and across Canal Street from Roger Williams Memorial Park, on the site of the former Blue Ribbon Beef. 7 stories and 255 apartments. Photos ongoing.

RI Credit Union

New bank construction on the edge of Capital Center near the State House. Architect: Newport Collaborative. Started late 2003, finished early 2005.

RISD Chace Student Center

What was a parking lot along South Main street will soon be a new student center. Architect: Rafael Moneo. Projected Start Date: Fall 2006, Projected End Date: ?

The Watson Institute

A center for Brown University’s international studies students. Built 2001-02, photos April 2005. 56,000 sq feet. Rafael Viñoly Architects, NY.

The Westin Hotel Tower

Part of the Procaccianti Group’s plans to expand the Westin after they bought it from the state in 2005. 31 stories, 358 feet tall. A mix of retail, parking, hotel rooms and condominiums. Jung Brannen Associates. Projected finish July 2007.

Two Thomas Street

New construction mixed with the redevlopment of a small house, done in 1999. Developed by Armory Properties. Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects.

Waterplace

New construction in Capital Center for two condo towers; one 19 stories (235 feet) and the other 17; to be completed in late 2007. Ground broken in May 2005. ADD Architects, Boston.
