Current Events

This little one-story brick building on the West Side has been vacant, or has been some lucky person studio/work shop for the past 10 years at least. Now, it is being redeveloped, I hear, as office space. The windows have been enlarged and structurally improved, but the nice yellow brick is being covered with cement, or dryvit, or something. The word on the street seems to be that the empty lot that fronts Broadway will become parking... hopefully well landscaped, but we are not sure. The owners aren't using tax credits or anything, and the Historic District Commission isn't doing much to stop them from doing whatever they want.

I'd like to find out more about this building. It's not listed on the ProvPlan website, or in the RIHPHC surveys. If anyone knows anything, get in touch.

Anecdotes

Zaidee  I live right down the street from this and am so disappointed to see what’s being done to the building (my father even more so than me). It all looks kid of cheap too; the windows have a wierd plastic wavy-ness to them. Sadly the lot is becoming parking. They’ve already begun work on it. I had never seen the inside of the building until one night the front was open and you could see bands playing inside, along with a rock-em-sock-em robots tournament that was going on.
