This is where we list all of the action and advocacy groups in Providence, and, we are willing to make a mini-info page for those that do not have a current web presence. We define an advocacy group as one that is not state funded, but funded by private money or grants.

American Diner Museum

The Institute is a 55 acre farm out in Coventry, RI, which showcases ideas of sustainable living. They host forums and workshops dedicated to teaching people green alternatives.

Brings together residents and organizations to advocate for the creation, preservation, maintenance and programming of our public spaces.

Our mission and goals outline a number of initiatives for the city to take to address the future of our public spaces. You can help us reach our goals. We believe that we can have public spaces that are assets to our neighborhoods by developing effective partnerships with local residents and city departments. We are already having regular meetings with city department heads to discuss issues of concern.

College Hill Neighborhood Association

The CHNA tracks local district issues affecting residents of College Hill, including expansion plans that Brown and RISD might have. Notices about meetings and zoning board hearings are posted. Hot issues include property taxes, overnight parking, and enforcement of the College Hill Institutional Zone.

Community MusicWorks

A community-based organization offering programs that build relationships between urban families and professional musicians in the South Side, West End, Elmwood, and Olneyville neighborhoods of Providence, Rhode Island. Our programs are anchored by the permanent residency of the Providence String Quartet. All four members teach music to young people, perform in the community, mentor students, and organize community musical events for students and their families.

Farm Fresh RI

FFRI manage farmers' markets in Central Falls, Woonsocket and 5 farmers' markets in Providence: Armory Park, Brown University, the Holiday Market, Hope High School and Monday Market at Kennedy Plaza. These markets are the crossroads of urban and rural. They give city dwellers access to fresh local foods and the people who grow them. The markets give life to public spaces.

FFRI develops searchable web resources for finding seasonal foods, farms and markets in Rhode Island. Farmers can update the information about what they are growing and how they sell. Their FreshLink service lets farmers tell restaurants and food service the quantities, pricing and delivery logistics for what is fresh in their fields that week.

FFRI hosts workshops like the Local Food Forum and farmers' market info sessions to share ideas and promote networking between farmers, advocates, chefs, schools and food service.

GroundWork Providence :: Bike Downtown

It also has an extensive history of the area, which has helped us with research of certain properties. They also help make sure new construction or rehab construction conforms to the design standards and guidelines for this Historic District. New Urban Arts

A non-profit organization that programs after-school arts mentoring groups for Providence high school students. Volunteers and art-mentors are always in need and greatly appreciated. Gallery/store/learning center located on Westminster Street across from Classical and Central high schools in the West End, and has a rotation of student art and music for display and for sale.

Pawtucket Arts Collaborative

PAC promotes the arts in Pawtucket through open studios and shows, as well as offering space to members on their website. They organize group shows and promote their membership with the yearly Trolley Tour of Pawtucket studio buildings.

The Providence Preservation Society Revolving Fund, Inc., was incorporated in 1980 as a separate, 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, affiliated with the PPS. Through rehabilitation loans, ownership, development, and sale of property, the Revolving Fund is directly involved in the revitalization of historic neighborhoods and commercial areas in the city.

Woonasquatucket River Greenway Project

The Greenway Project is a catalyst for renewal along the Woonasquatucket River in Providence. The green linear park will revitalize a major hidden natural resource in the west side of the city and become a destination for neighborhood residents and people across the city and state. A bicycle / pedestrian path will link recreational sites and green spaces in the Manton, Hartford, Olneyville, Valley and Smith Hill neighborhoods to Waterplace Park in downtown Providence.
