State and City
A.I.R. Community

By our definition, State and City links are those that are funded by or branches of the city or state goverment. It is difficult sometimes to see where the line is, so if you know better than we do, please email us and correct our designation.

Heritage Harbor Museum

www.heritageharbor.org
A new museum concept in the works for the old Narragansett Electric power plant in India Point. An ambitous project to be completed in 2004 focusing on bringing together 19 other community organizations dedicated to preserving culture in New England. They are not state funded, although they did win a referendum for public money to help fund their projects.

Providence Neighborhood Planting Program

www.pnpp.org
A street tree planting and maintenance partnership. Apply for a street tree in your neighborhood, help lobby for more street trees, and learn more on how to care for them.

Providence Plan

www.provplan.org
Founded in 1992 as a joint venture of City and State government, the academic community, and the private sector, the Providence Plan restores hope and creates new opportunity for the people of Providence through a comprehensive initiative designed to address the fundamental causes of poverty and urban decline. The PP’s six principal goals are to put people to work, retain the city’s middle class, make our neighborhoods safe and livable, prepare today’s children for tomorrow’s jobs, provide decent and affordable housing, and increase jobs and taxes in downtown Providence.

RI Department of Transportation (DOT)

www.dot.state.ri.us
A crazy department and a crazy website (a little hard to navigate) but some great overviews and plans for the relocation of I-195. Fly through movies and overview maps of the project.

RI Foundation

www.rifoundation.org
The Rhode Island Foundation is a unique institution in a unique profession. The only community foundation in the Ocean State, it serves as the state’s Center for Philanthropy. Rather than limit activities to raising and investing funds, and making subsequent grants, the Foundation seeks to foster dialogue, whether among donors and grantees or government officials and the private sector. We work with other area, regional and national foundations to solve local problems. We conduct basic research on topics where it is lacking. We identify key challenges, whether in education, health care, or the arts, or any of the other daily pursuits in a human society.

Rhode Island Historical Society

www.rihs.org
Founded in 1822, the Rhode Island Historical Society is a privately endowed, membership organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing Rhode Island’s history.

RI Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission

www.preservation.ri.gov
RIHPHC is the state office that deals with archaeology, historic preservation and heritage programs, and provides information about buildings and sites, review projects that impact properties on the National Register of Historic Places, and administer tax credits and loans for preservation.
